This week the Nintendo DS lite has seen a massive drop of 50,000 units in sales, perhaps due to supply from Nintendo or maybe because finally everyone in Japan has at least one? Doubt that. PS2 sales are beating PS3 sales by a slight margin, but I expect that is due to the release of the #1 game in Japan at the moment; Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+. The Xbox 360 has seen a slight jump, however its still being beaten by the PS3 by over 4 times the amount of sales. What do they have against Xbox?

Spain gets 110,000 and sells 100,000
More great news for Sony and Europe! MeriStation is reporting that Spain were shipped 110,000 PS3 units and sold a stunning 100,000.
A spanish Sony spokes person has said:
“Es la primera vez que un sistema de entretenimiento ha conseguido una penetración en hogares tan rápida en tan breve periodo de tiempo. Igualmente, este lanzamiento ha supuesto un impulso en la venta de películas en formato Blu-ray (alta definición), cuya demanda se ha multiplicado por 30, comparando esta semana con la anterior a la llegada de PLAYSTATION 3″
Which roughly translates to:
“This is the first time than an entertainment system has made it so fast into homes in such a short amount of time. Also, this launch has promoted the sales in films on the Blu-Ray format (high resolution), who’s demand has multiplied by 30 in comparison with this week and last week before the launch of the PLAYSTATION 3.”
All these people saying “Sony is failing” and “The PS3 is doomed” really don’t know what they’re on about. For us living in the UK, the PS3 is the fastest selling console we’ve ever seen, so what does that say? Maybe UK and PS3 is going to turn out like Japan and Pokémon? :P
PS3 recovers from sales blip
Last week we reported that the PS3 had been sold out by the GBA, in that recorded week, which is rather embarrassing. However, this week it has bounced back in japan, just look at the sales figures:
- Nintendo DS Lite - 121,471
- Wii - 67,070
- PSP - 43,769
- PLAYSTATION 3 - 21,635
- PlayStation 2 - 13,321
- Xbox 360 - 2,910
- Game Boy micro - 727
It’s still got a while to go to bed “the best thing ever” to the japanese, but these japanese sales figures show us that it’s doing pretty well over there again. Beating the Playstation 2 is definatly an accomplishment.
February Hardware sales
Here are this months NPD hardware sales:
DS - 485,000
Wii - 335,000
PS2 - 295,000
360 - 228,000
PSP - 176,000
GBA - 136,000
PS3 - 127,000
NGC - 24,000
PS3 has clocked in second to last beating on the Nintendo Gamecube by 103,000 units, but loosing to the Game Boy Advance by 9,000 units. How and why people by the GBA still I dont know, same goes for the Gamecube, but it looks like GBA has PS3 beat this month. Japan are still pretty hot on this console and pretty much hand-helds over all, as you can tell from the DS’ winning streak. Hopefully the PS3 total sales should be boosted during the European Launch, I know ill add at least one number to that list and that makes me feel all warm and happy. :P
