UK Game Releases 9/11/07
Game releases this week for Playstation 3 are:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam
Lego Star Wars: The Compete Saga
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (We have it - review coming shortly)
WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 (Also on PSP)
Reccomendations:
- Call of Duty 4 looks excellent. They have finally left the WW2 scene and it looks to be a bit like Battlefield 2, that we love, which could mean good things.
- We played the Dynasty Warriors: Gundam demo and… lets say Parappa the Rappa has more attacks. Rent if you’re REALLY into Gundam.
- Lego Star Wars is the first two epsiodes put into one. Episode II was really popular on PSP and its a shame they’re not making it this time, but if you’re into starwars and like lego (who doesnt?) this is the game for you.
- I’ve been playing Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction for only 2 1/2 hours and I love it. It’s classic R&C, so if you ever liked an R&C then buy this!
- WWE isn’t my favorite, but they’re good for a laugh. Reviews are yet to come from this game but basic impressions from videos etc tells me that you’ll be getting the same ever popular wrestling experience as in previous WWE/WWFs.
PS3UK Review: Folklore
RPGs are a common thing nowadays, but Folklore has taken basic RPG elements mixed them with a strange gothic background and is finally something different and original. Using the Genji: Days of the Blade engine at Game Republic Folklore has stunningly beautiful and unusual environments, but certainly isn’t a graphics showcase of Playstation 3. Lots of people fell in love with Foklore after playing the demo when it exploded onto the Japanese Playstation Store, but does the love stay, or was the demo merely a hump and dump?
Sanctuary’s Review of EA’s skate. for Playstation 3:
“Tony Hawks has lead the skating game genre since they were around, starting on the Playstation 1 and leading onto Proving Grounds on the PS3, however EA have now released Skate, which by far surpasses Tony Hawks in nearly all areas. The main high point of the game is that it takes away the extremely over the top combo’s you can pull off in Tony Hawk and replaces them with 1 or 2 tricks which take some skill to pull off. This makes the game a lot more satisfying when you get good but also has a pretty steep learning curve.”

Sanctuary’s Review of Clive Barker’s Jericho for Playstation 3:
“Clive Barker has made some good horrors, but Jericho is not one of them. Clive Barker has written some amazing horror movies as well as produced and directed them, his most famous being Candyman and Hellraiser. Considering his past work, we expected Jericho to be scarier than the first play through of Silent Hill 1 when we were 10. Sadly, it wasn’t. The game starts out quite well by throwing you into the middle of a desert with ancient ruins and a strange tornado. You walk around for a while in your team leader Ross who is equipped with a nicely chosen G36c rifle until monsters run out in front of you and start attacking you. Considering this was written by an experienced horror writer, we were expecting a dark and creepy introduction and the first enemy encounter to be pretty horrifying. This was the first let down of many.”

Play Magazine are one of the first places anywhere to get a chance to review Silent Hill: Origins, and they have given it a score of 8.5/10. Not a bad score considering it’s not being made by the original team or even at Konami.

Square Enix will release the first ever trailer for the PSP Final Fantasy fighter; Dissidia: Final Fantasy tomorrow at 17:00 according to Jeux-France. We’ll keep you updated if the footage gets captured.

According to El Paso Times Home rental giant Blockbuster will be renting out high definition DVD’s only in the Blu-Ray format in 1,450 of its stores in next months update. This, of course, is a huge step for Sony and a massive blow to the HD DVD format. Blockbuster have been renting out both Blu-Ray and HD DVD in 450~ stores only to find that 70% of the time the consumer was choosing Sony’s Blu Ray Disc.
“The consumers are sending us a message. I can’t ignore what I’m seeing,” Matthew Smith, senior vice president of merchandising at Blockbuster.
HD DVD isnt completely out though,as Blockbuster will still be renting them at 250 stores and online. Huge movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Spider Man 3 and Casino Royale are all exclusive to the Blu Ray format which also helps Sony along the way. Can we say the format war is over? Not just yet. But its getting close and I think we can see the winner…

Here are some new scans of the Playstation 3 Exclusive Folklore, or Folksoul in Japan being developed by Team Genji. The scans mention monsters, name a couple of Non-Playable characters, downloadable monsters from the Playstation store and other things. Of course, they’re japanese so thats all I can tell you without knowing any Japanese. :P Enjoy the scans, thanks to GameBrink.

Today, the Sony Playstation 3 launched in Korea. Those lucky buggers exclusivly have an 80GB system which is available to purchase as of today, and damn do they know how to market a console. :P
Kotaku earlier posted that the Korean PS3 launch was “A bust” with a lacklustre attendance at the pre-launch event (No one forget people saying the same thing on the Eurolaunch…160k units sold. Ha.) but now, PS3Fanboy have posted updated pictures of the launch which more respectable attendance.
Only sales figures will sort this one out, but considering 200 pre-launch consoles used to tempt the Koreans by Sony were sold in 3 minutes, I think the numbers should be pretty good.
To be honest, I think they got the console at a good time. The US got the Playstation 3 back in November — the amount of games was poor. We got it in March and while there were some good titles, they’re starting to loose their edge. Korea have their Playstation 3’s now just as some pretty good games like Ninja Gaiden: Sigma, The Darkness and Folklore come out. Good times.
