Assassins Creed Review

Assassins Creed is a game set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart. You play as Altair, a master Assassin with an attitude which eventually gets him stripped of his weapons and his title. To regain the respect of the other Assassins after breaking the creed, Altair has to assassinate some chosen targets oppressing certain cities. Assassins Creed has been hyped quite a bit but after the embarrassing demo at E3, does it live up to the hype?

Finally Sony have the right idea. It looks as though they are straying away from exploding suitcases and advents that don’t really make sense to anyone and finally advertising what people care about - the games. They have posted 2 new TVs and on the Playstation.Blog which show you just a glimpse of whats coming for Playstation 3.

Oh, and some people need to be told over and over, so:

Metal Gear Solid 4 Exclusive to Playstation 3

I’ve been skeptical about Kane & Lynch: Dead Men since seeing how poor the AI was in the demo we had a chance to play during Games Convention in Germany. The story looks really good and compelling, but does the gameplay and terrible enemy AI pull it down?

Vivendi games have confirmed to Variety writer Ben Fritz that Ghostbusters the game is in production for Playstation 3. There is already one screenshot of doughboy, and there should be more to come. Is this game 10 years late?… Perhaps.

Ghostbusters for PS3

Epic Games Vice President Mark Rein has been interviewed by Eurogamer on Ureal Tournament 3 for Playstation 3. Mark explains how Playstation 3 is a primary choice over the Xbox 360 at the moment because of it’s open network so users can share maps and mods. During the course of the interview Mark explains why UT3 might not make it to Playstation 3 this year in Europe.

Eurogamer: First things first, are we going to see the PS3 version this year? And what’s happening with the 360 version?

Mark Rein: The 360 version’s not till next year anyway, so all I can say is we’re still hoping for the PS3 version to be released this year. Europe’s a problem because the certification process in Europe takes longer. They’re testing all these different languages in all these different countries, so I doubt it’ll be released this year in Europe. But I don’t know. We’ll have to cross our fingers and wait and see.

That’s such a terrible, non-commital answer [laughs]. But that’s how it is! Sorry.”

Playstation3themes.com is a newly launched website which provides you with lots of, many of which are good, themes for your PS3. Like the PSP, the PS3’s new firmware allows you to install new themes, and there is even a theme maker now, again like with the PSP. Best part is, it’s all official so you don’t have to worry about downgrading and such.

Head over to PS3Themes and “pimp your ps3″, as they suggest.

Next-Gen.biz have posted the current best sellers in Spain. Spain’s chart has Pro Evo 08 in the top two positions, first on the PS2, then on the PS3 while the Xbox 360 version is all the way down at number 7. It’s rare that PS3 beats 360 in a multi platform chart, so Spain has gotta love their PS3’s!

IGN.com have reviewed at rated Assassins Creed 7.5/10 on the Playstation 3. I was kind of hoping for better on this game, you’ll see our impressions of it at the weekend. IGN Had this to say:

“If you play Assassin’s Creed for an hour, you will probably think it’s a fantastic game. But as Assassin’s progresses, its dual storylines and repetitive quests begin to grow tiresome. There are so many great individual elements, but they are lost among the myriad of poor decisions from Ubisoft Montreal. Wasting the big twist on the first five minutes of gameplay is a tremendous mistake, but not nearly as damaging as the ill-conceived assassination investigation quests, which get old fast. The exploration aspects of Assassin’s Creed and the combat are both plusses in my book. But those two elements are only a small part of the whole.”

As many others, I was so excited to play the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune demo again after playing it in GC but to mine and every other PS3 owner in Europe’s disappointment - it turns out that the demo has a bug which asks you to insert the disc and the demo doesn’t play. This is of course only on Playstation 3’s outside of the US. Anyone else without a North American Playstation 3 will not be able to play the demo. Naughty Dog has responded and commented on the issue stating that “Naughty Dog is a studio that listens to gamers, so I hope to have good news for you soon.”
