Spain gets 110,000 and sells 100,000

More great news for Sony and Europe! MeriStation is reporting that Spain were shipped 110,000 PS3 units and sold a stunning 100,000.

A spanish Sony spokes person has said:

“Es la primera vez que un sistema de entretenimiento ha conseguido una penetración en hogares tan rápida en tan breve periodo de tiempo. Igualmente, este lanzamiento ha supuesto un impulso en la venta de películas en formato Blu-ray (alta definición), cuya demanda se ha multiplicado por 30, comparando esta semana con la anterior a la llegada de PLAYSTATION 3″

Which roughly translates to:

“This is the first time than an entertainment system has made it so fast into homes in such a short amount of time. Also, this launch has promoted the sales in films on the Blu-Ray format (high resolution), who’s demand has multiplied by 30 in comparison with this week and last week before the launch of the PLAYSTATION 3.”
All these people saying “Sony is failing” and “The PS3 is doomed” really don’t know what they’re on about. For us living in the UK, the PS3 is the fastest selling console we’ve ever seen, so what does that say? Maybe UK and PS3 is going to turn out like Japan and Pokémon? :P

Grand Thefto Auto IV Trailer Online…sort of

The countdown on the website has finished, but the trailer seems to be unviewable. Probably because of the huge amount of traffic the site is more than likely getting, but when i try and access it i get this message:

The connection has timed out

The server at www.rockstargames.com is taking too long to respond.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Lol, I was sorta looking forward to it when the counter hit 1, now it doesnt seem to be working at all. Should fix itself in time.

David Hayter talks about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

David Hayter speaks on his role as Solid Snake in MGS4. This is official confirmation that he will indeed play snake in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. He talks a little bit about the “soft spot for solid snake in his heart” (awww) and a little about his character in the next Metal Gear game. He explains how snake is aging and he knows this is his final mission…

David Hayter

He talks quite passionately about the game which I like a lot! I couldn’t here the “Snake” in his voice to begin with, and it made me sad…but you can here him there in the background, especially when he says “Metal Gear” XD His voice seems to get more and more “Snake” the longer you listen to the interview. David Hayter is such a cool guy, I cant wait for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. God, I love the quotes he makes xD “Shadow Moses?!” “Meryl?!” “A submarine?!” “Hind-D?!” XD

David Hayter in the Recording Studio

Podcast

Next week they’ll have an interview with Kris Zimmerman, so look forward to that!

I saw a post about the chart which made me laugh. The poster suggested that it was Sony buying their own games! Some people never give up.

PS3 recovers from sales blip

Last week we reported that the PS3 had been sold out by the GBA, in that recorded week, which is rather embarrassing. However, this week it has bounced back in japan, just look at the sales figures:

  • Nintendo DS Lite - 121,471
  • Wii - 67,070
  • PSP - 43,769
  • PLAYSTATION 3 - 21,635
  • PlayStation 2 - 13,321
  • Xbox 360 - 2,910
  • Game Boy micro - 727

It’s still got a while to go to bed “the best thing ever” to the japanese, but these japanese sales figures show us that it’s doing pretty well over there again. Beating the Playstation 2 is definatly an accomplishment.

Devil May Cry 4 goes Multi-Platform

Capcom announced today that Devil May Cry 4, previously exclusive to the Playstation 3 is now going to be released on Xbox 360 and PC to “maximize profits”.
” Capcom’s “Devil May Cry 4″ Goes Multiplatform! Mega-hit Title set for PLAYSTATION® 3, Xbox 360™ and PC!

Capcom Co., Ltd., a world-wide leader in the gaming industry, is proud to announce the development of “Devil May Cry 4″ for the PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360™ and PC platforms.

“Devil May Cry” is a series of popular, stylish action games, with a cast of unforgettable characters. Since the release of the original “Devil May Cry” in 2001, the series has shipped 6,800,000 copies as of December 31st, 2006, proudly making it one of Capcom’s flagship titles. The series appeal is not limited to games; an animated TV series to be broadcast on Japan’s WOWOW network is slated to air Spring 2007. The latest iteration, “Devil May Cry 4″ will take advantage of each platform’s hardware strengths to achieve the most stunning visuals in the series to date, and the introduction of a mysterious new protagonist will keep the action fast and fresh. Even before its release, “Devil May Cry 4″ has been met with tremendous anticipation, as fans patiently endured long lines at TOKYO GAME SHOW 2006 for the chance to play the demo. “Devil May Cry 4″ will be released simultaneously for the PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360™ platforms.

Capcom was among the first software developers in the world to make games for the next-generation consoles, and those efforts have been met with great success. In addition, Capcom’s use of an integrated development environment is one of the many methods being employed to improve efficiency and help take advantage of the cutting-edge functionality in next-generation systems.

Capcom will continue to produce titles that appeal to users while pursuing a multiplatform strategy to help enhance profits.”

I’m not really upset or anything. :P Its a bit disapointing that PS3 has lost another exclusive but I understand why. The PS3 is 4/5 months old, there aren’t enough consoles in homes to handle a popular exclusive like Devil May Cry4 from a developers point of view. Though saying that, lets hope that other Sony exclusives don’t go this way. :P Hopefully this choice by capcom means that Devil May Cry 4 might come out a little sooner than we thought.

Shops stills taking pre-orders = PS3 failure? No

I’ve been reading a lot lately that shops still taking PS3 pre-orders means that the Ps3 has already failed in Europe.

This opinion is pretty stupid. GAME in Poole have taken over 140 pre-orders in a month, granted the Nintendo Wii had more, but not a striking amount more. I worked on the launch and we had 180 Wii units pre-ordered, so only 40 behind for a much more expensive console isnt half bad.

Just to re-assure you this is in no way a failure before launch, theres still a huge amount of interest for Playstation 3, however, unfortunately, I have had a lot of people tell me they’d love one but they’re too expensive… This is still interest and in no way a failure, people aren’t hating the console by any means. I’m hoping im right and this is just good supply from Sony, a start on their “I’m sorry Europe” for making us wait so long.

New Lair Gameplay screenshot

PS3Lair.nl have come across a new Lair screenshot which claims to be in-game. It’s apparently from GDC according to one of the commenters, which means I must have missed any news on Lair there because I didn’t even know it went. XD

“Unproven technology isnt worth the £200 extra”

According to Microsoft rep “Lewis”, users will “try to figure out if the addition of unproven technology is worth the extra £200 over the Xbox 360 premium.” The answer to the PS3’s cost is nothing to do with “unproven technology”, but what you get with the 60GB Playstation 3. This statement was published by MCVUK magazine a while back, I just thought id mention it for the irony. :P The rest of the article just mentions about how there are no plans to cut the price of the Xbox 360 and how Microsoft are going to be a little more “cautious” in the second half of their fiscal year.

Wheres the extra £200 gone? [Image]

Also, classic Microsoft, the impressive 3.1 million figure they give is shipped. That doesn’t mean that many have actually been sold. Sony were getting digs for that, now Microsoft can have some. :P
