Motorstorm 2 on its way
After Phil Harrison’s keynote address at GDC 07, PSU ran into some guys from Evolution Studios and had a talk with them, where they mentioned and pretty much confirmed Motorstorm 2. According to one of the guys from Evolution Studios it has “been in development for a long time”. They wont mention any specifics, but they did tell PSU that it will be running on a revamped version of the Motorstorm engine.
Motorstorm 2 and us Europeans dont even have Motorstorm 1 yet…heh.
7 Days left — 7 reasons why you should have a PS3
Or why you should have preordered already. :P
Over the next 7 days we will be giving you 7 reasons why we think you should invest in a Playstation 3. (At some point or another, though we’re all getting it on launch, right?) These will just be 7 reasons in no specific order, just 7 basic reasons why we see the Playstation 3 as lick-able.

HD Gaming
The Playstation 3 allows gaming in HD up to 1080p, which jumps the quality of the graphics up by a huge amount. While HD TV’s still cost a bit, the prices are coming down, so to play your PS3 in its full, chewable graphic-glory then plug it into your HD TV (or get one right now, then do the before mentioned!) and it will bring a tear to your eye. The output is stunning, you will get no better picture quality than 1080p HD with your Playstation 3.
February Hardware sales
Here are this months NPD hardware sales:
DS - 485,000
Wii - 335,000
PS2 - 295,000
360 - 228,000
PSP - 176,000
GBA - 136,000
PS3 - 127,000
NGC - 24,000
PS3 has clocked in second to last beating on the Nintendo Gamecube by 103,000 units, but loosing to the Game Boy Advance by 9,000 units. How and why people by the GBA still I dont know, same goes for the Gamecube, but it looks like GBA has PS3 beat this month. Japan are still pretty hot on this console and pretty much hand-helds over all, as you can tell from the DS’ winning streak. Hopefully the PS3 total sales should be boosted during the European Launch, I know ill add at least one number to that list and that makes me feel all warm and happy. :P
Def Jam: Icon demo launched on the Playstation Store
Today, the Def Jam: Icon demo was released for download on the Playstation Store. Even though the game is already out… a little late maybe? At least it’ll server as a good try-before-you-buy for us Europeans if you cant decide on your launch games.
New Darkness trailer
Loads of blood, gore and hellish creatures of the night. No, its not Vanessa Feltz, its the Darkness for Playstation 3. A new trailer has been released today with lots of blood, gore and brain-eating. Just the way we like it. The video reveals the first elements of the storyline that we’ve heard so far. Im not sure what to think of the story, but the gameplay looks quite fun.
WARNING: Video contains alot of blood gore and violence.

NO Killzone 2 screenshots in March issue of OPMUK
Sadly, according to developers of Killzone 2, there will be no new gameplay screenshots of Killzone 2 in March’s issue of Official Playstation Magazine UK. Guerrilla Games had this to say on the issue:
“Well that was one big false alarm. We are not releasing any screenshots or info or anything regarding Killzone for PS3 in any publication, print or otherwise, at this present time. Now do not ask me why OPM decided to go with that back-page “exclusive”. I don’t work at OPM, ask them.”
There you have it. I guess we’ll have to wait until E3 in July to see Killzone 2 in action.

Sony spends 1.5 Million Euro’s on advertising in Ireland
A while ago, QJ.net reported that Ireland was loosing interest in the Playstation 3. In a survey 82% of people asked said they would not be buying the Playstation 3 because it of the cost. Sony has responded by spending 1.5 million euros on ad campaigns in Ireland. SCSI marketing director Marea Gray had this to say:
“We’ve never done anything like this to this scale before. It was quite expensive to do, but you have to showcase the product properly. What we’ve done, it’s about embodying what the brand is about. We’re not just saying “here’s a console and here’s great graphics.” We’re showing how the PS3 is part of a lifestyle thing.”
He also made a comment about the Wii:
“We’re aware of what the competition is doing and we know that Wii is still spending a lot. Wii tends to go for a very product driven campaign, PlayStation tends not to go down that road.”
Take that as you will, but I think he means to say that Playstation 3 is more than a games console.

Save lives with your Playstation 3
According to Kotaku.com, Sony have teamed up with Stanford University to create a network which you can connect your PS3 to, to help study causes of many diseases such as Parkinson’s, Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer. The next firmware update will open the doors to this program. Once you have it installed you will find a new Folding@Home icon on the XMB. To join you simply click the button. You can also setup your PS3 to run the app while it is idle. This is called Folding@Home
So how does it work?
Sony’s powerful Cell processor will tap into Stanford’s Folding@home program to work on studying disease by folding proteins. When this process is started on a single computer this can take up to 30 years to process, however with Folding@Home allows the thousands of PS3s to work on the same simulation, speeding the process dramatically, 10 times faster according to Sony.
GAME UK compares 360 and PS3
GAME in the Blue Water center, have a little poster up at their Xbox 360 section comparing the PS3 and the Xbox 360. While I doubt that GAME intend to be so bias and we are told to promote the PS3 (I work at GAME ), but downsizing a major seller is stupid, so I don’t think its their intention….or is it?
Though, it does make a false statement that the PS3 is “full backward compatable with all PS1 and PS2 games”. Im all for promoting the PS3 and I hope it wins the war, but I agree with UK:Resistance, they’ve just made an affordable console look crap.

Edit: According to GamesIndustry.biz the sign was completely unauthorized and has now been removed. There, I didnt think GAME would insult such a good seller.
Phil Harrison interviewed by Pro-G
Sony’s own Phil Harrsion has appeared in a post-GDC interview with Pro-G. In the interview they ask him questions about Home, Killzone 2 and the mysterious Afrika.
Phil talks about the beta and how the private beta is underway. The public beta will now be launched in April in the US and Europe and “If all goes well” Home will be officially launched in Autumn sometime. He also mentions two games, Afrika and Killzone 2 [PS3]. Afrika will not “be about killing and it’s not about running around the environment shooting elephants and hippopotami” but a whole new, interesting gaming experience. As for Killzone 2, GDC wasnt intended to be a “Deep-Dive” into Killzone, thats being saved for E3 in July. We’re looking forward to that then. :p
